I took the day off work today to work on my HBSsays, and boy, did I. I have 4 winners now, and one yet to be birthed (but already conceived). I was actually able to take the stinging criticisms (see last post) into account and write far better essays.
Being 40 words over in a word count doesn’t scare me anymore, I think I can whack 40 words in about 2 minutes of editing. Everyone else says it, too, but it’s amazing how much you can pack into 400 words.
At least I’ll know HBS will know who I am, and if they don’t want me, they don’t want me. I’ll get in somewhere.
I have my recommenders lined up, I think, including my supervisor. I was worried about asking him, because this MBA app season hasn’t been my most productive time at work (thanks, BWForums), but he said doing great recs would be no problem.
By the end of the weekend, I plan on passing my essays off to a couple of editors, and then I will be able to really turn this HBS app out. Goal: HBS R1, Tuck R1, and we will see on the two other schools.
But first, as promised, Feelin’ Good in the ‘hood!
I wanted to post this a couple weeks back, but I had to step up off for a few days given what happened with that free consult… I have read the many blog horror stories about stressful applications, but to tell you the truth, I just don’t feel it! I feel like this essay experience should have me as sick as a dog

you look like your human just died…
But really, I am having the time of my life! I have really loved this period of reflection and introspection that is required to define your goals and analyze your past. I’m confident in my writing skills, the strength of my app, and it is exciting trying to create a picture for adcom to fall in like with (
).
I know I can interview well, I’m looking forward to traveling to schools, and the real exciting thing is looking forward to pursuing the future I really want! No more hopeless career.
With all of this, who wouldn’t love applying for an MBA?
